Sıla Gençoğlu, known mononymously as Sıla, was born on June 17, 1980, in Acıpayam, Denizli, Turkey. After studying jazz at Istanbul Bilgi University and serving as a backing vocalist for Kenan Doğulu, she released her debut studio album Sıla in 2007. Its lead single, "...Dan Sonra", topped Turkey’s Türkçe Top 20 charts. She has since released critically acclaimed albums—including İmza (2009), Konuşmadığımız Şeyler Var (2010), Vaveyla (2012), Yeni Ay (2014), and Mürekkep (2016)—and received numerous national awards such as the Golden Butterfly and Turkish Music Awards. Sıla remains a dominant figure in Turkish pop music.
